At Forrester High school we fully believe every pupil should be given the best opportunity to achieve and progress their learning every lesson. In order for us to do this we encourage all pupils to get fully changed for PE classes despite any injury or illness.

Participation in PE and engagement is fundamental to every child’s development and learning. Health and wellbeing is central to this and learning about living a healthy happy lifestyle is high on the school’s and government’s agenda.

Pupils who are injured or ill will be asked to assist the teacher in a range of tasks which will further improve numeracy and literacy skills. These include working in groups and developing listening and leadership opportunities, refereeing or helping score. These qualities are central to Curriculum for Excellence and it is vital that all pupils are given as many opportunities across all subjects to develop skills for life during their time in school.

Research strongly suggests pupils who are part of a class/club/team/community become more confident and are likely to go on and use these skills to positive effect in their lives beyond the end of their school career.  Many studies also strongly suggest Physical exercise can improve self-esteem, resilience and reduce anxiety and stress levels. It goes without saying regular exercise can cut down on cardio vascular diseases and diabetes.

By sitting at the side of a PE class in school uniform, we feel we are not maximising every pupils learning experience and potential;  and this is something we want to change by encouraging pupils to wear PE kit and feel part of a rich learning community at all times.

If a pupil turns up with no PE kit, we will offer the pupil the opportunity to borrow.

We would be delighted if you could support the school on this matter.
